Did you know that you could find the latest writers' guidelines for many of the major publishing companies on the Internet? You can learn the current editors' names and addresses, as well as the latest market news. Let's see what we can find.
Addison Wesley Longman publishes educational and nonfiction books in a wide range of subjects. Visit their site for more information.
Click on "How to submit a manuscript" at the Avon Books website to find the latest writers' guidelines. Learn about the newest books in each of their categories, or sign up for any of Avon's online reading groups.
Bantam Doubleday Dell publishes their writers' guidelines at their website, as well as news on their latest books. Click on BDD FAQ's for the guidelines.
Under "For Authors" at the Dorchester Publishing website, you'll find the latest editorial guidelines for the fiction categories in which they're currently acquiring.
Harlequin Enterprises offers editorial guidelines for Mills & Boon, Harlequin, Silhouette, MIRA, and Steeple Hill books.
Click on Authors at the HarperCollins website to search for information on your favorite authors. Or, click on Imprints to learn about any of HarperCollins' divisions, such as Zondervan Publishing House, Cliff Street Books, or HarperPrism.
At Kensington Publishing Corporation, you can learn about their latest releases, as well as their publishing schedule for the next six months. The company posts their writers' guidelines online, plus offers email addresses, websites, and chat opportunities for many of their current authors.
Little, Brown & Company, a publisher of children's books, features an Author's Corner as well as guidelines for manuscript and jacket art submissions.
Macmillan Computer Publishing Company, which publishes computer books and software, offers information about their different imprints at their website.
For submission information for Pelican Publishing Company, visit their website, where you'll also find illustrator guidelines as well as news on their latest releases.
The Penguin Group's website is broken down by their different publishing groups: Penguin Putnam (which includes Penguin, Dutton, and Signet), Penguin Books Canada, and Penguin Books UK. The site also features manuscript submission tips.
At the Prentice Hall website, you'll find author guides for their different divisions as well as information on their e-mail lists announcing new titles.
For facts on Random House and any of its publishing groups, such as Ballantine or Crown, visit their website. You'll discover contact information, a history of the company, and news about their authors. The site even features "Works in Progress," where you can learn what your favorite authors are working on now!
If you write poetry, you'll want to visit the ROAD Publishers website, where you'll learn of various publishers who are accepting poetry submissions.
A popular publisher of children's books is Scholastic, Inc., whose website contains tips on submitting manuscripts.
Short story writers will want to stop by the Short Story Magazine for contest and submission information.
At the St. Martin's Press website, you'll find submission guidelines as well as information on any of their divisions.
For news about any of Time Warner Inc.'s magazines, visit their Pathfinder website. Time Warner publishes PEOPLE, TIME, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, MONEY and FORTUNE.
For a wonderful listing of publishing companies, visit The BookWire Index. Publishers are listed according to categories, such as mystery, business, children's, computer, and religious.
Finally, the Publishing Home Page at the Mining Company offers information on book distributors, media contacts, and mailing lists for the publishing industry.
