Tennis Anyone?

By Robin Nobles (8/15/97)

Hattiesburg's Website of the Week is Hattiesburg, MS Tour Online. The site features classified ads, job announcements, lost pets, restaurants, a photo gallery, a business directory, and much more. Check it out!

Let's see what the Internet holds for roller sports, tennis, badminton, racquetball, and handball.

The center court for tennis on the Internet is The Tennis Server. Read columns such as Stress Relief in Tennis, browse an online tennis book and video index, or learn tennis tips from the pros.

Ever heard of paddle tennis? Paddle Tennis is similar to ordinary tennis but is played on a court about 1/3 the size of a tennis court, with a lower net, a de-pressurized tennis ball and a solid paddle. It's a fast-paced game the whole family can enjoy.

Let's not forget table tennis in our search for sites. World Wide Ping-Pong contains a collection of table tennis pages from all over the world.

According to the United States Badminton Association, badminton is currently the second most popular spectator sport in the world behind soccer. The site provides a breakdown by region and state of where you can play badminton as well as information about the association itself.

The Basic Rules for Badminton can be found at http://dmiwww.cs.tut.fi/riku/tsr/badm_rules.html

For articles and current events in racquetball, check out the RACQUETBALL Magazine Online.

The United States Handball Association contains a listing of major tournaments, instructions, handball news, and health and fitness tips.

ESPNET SportsZone: In-line Skating features news on the sport, multimedia sound and video files, and the history of in-line skating. Did you know that in-line skating dates back to 1100 when early skates were made of bone and attached to leather boot soles to help hunters get closer to game?

Rollerblade.com is an impressive in-line skating site that provides the information you'll need to get started in the sport. The site discusses skates and safety gear, helps you search for an instructor, and outlines suggested places to skate. You'll also find the latest innovations, a directory of associations, and a listing of in-line skating events.

A site that focuses on the artistic side of competitive roller skating is the U.S. Artistic Roller Skating site. The "artistic" forms include figures, dance, singles, and pairs. The site also features a list of roller skating locations by state.

Did you realize there's a triple crown in skateboarding? At the 1997 Triple Crown of Skateboarding site, you can visit the three cities involved in the competition: Boston, Hollywood, and Las Vegas. The site features the history of skating which originated in the mid 1960s in coastal Los Angeles. View pictures of the mammoth 48-foot-wide ramp used at last year's Triple Crown Finals in Hollywood, California.

Next week, we'll search for sites on Attention Deficit Disorder. See you then.
