Summer Activities
By Robin Nobles (6/26/98)
During the summer months, most people enjoy spending time in the sun, then they rush back inside to the cool AC. Let's see what summer activities we can find on the Internet.
Outdoors
The summer is the perfect time to get out your bicycle and hit the roads. At iBIKE.com, you'll discover resorts that offer great deals on biking, trail maps, and even a section where you can ask repair questions.
Tennis is another excellent summer activity. Visit Tennis Magazine Online for weekly tennis tips, an instruction hotline, fitness articles, and a list of tennis resorts and camps.
For a wonderful listing of websites about kites, visit Kite Links.
Rollerblade.com offers anything and everything you want to know about inline skates, including a directory of skate parks, schools, and instructors. Learn the latest rollerblade technology, or gets tips on how to get started.
Are you going to the beach this summer? Before your trip, be sure to visit Sand Castle Tips for Beginners. Learn how to build towers, walls, and arches several feet tall out of sand and water, then combine those structures to create other structures.
At the Yellow Pages of Swimming, you'll find categories such as diving, water polo, and coaching/research. Click on any of the categories to find link after link of swimming-related websites.
Indoors
If it's too hot to stay outdoors, you may want to interest yourself in a good movie. At The Internet Movie Database, you'll have access to information on over 150,000 movies.
Baseball fans need to head over to The Official Site of Major League Baseball, then click on Fun & Games for a variety of online baseball-related games. Games include Ballpark Vendor, Batting Practice, and Relief Pitcher.
During the heat of the day, it's fun to curl up in an easy chair and read a good book. If you enjoy discussing the books you've read with others, you may want to join Book Chatter, where members decide which book to read each month. Discussion questions are provided, and the members can post messages to the online bulletin board.
For summer time food ideas, visit Mealtime Ideas by Pillsbury. You'll find seasonal recipes for sweets, such as Frozen Key Lime Torte or Coconut Crunch Pretzel Bars. Or, glance through their Summer Pasta Pleasures for recipes like Creamy Broccoli Pasta Salad or Tuna Salad Italiano.
