Helpful Sites for Parents
By Robin Nobles (10/23/98)
I believe it's safe to say that there isn't a job on the face of the earth that is as difficult as raising children. One of the main problems is that children tend to do things that the "how to" manuals never cover, which is where talking with other parents or reading articles by parenting experts can really help.
We'll begin our tour at Family.com, Disney's online parenting magazine. Learn discipline tactics for every age group, words you should never say to your child, and how to handle sibling rivalry.
At ParentTime, type in the age group of your child, and you're presented with a multitude of categories for that particular age, including behavior checkpoints, fears, trials and triumphs, and kids with special needs. This impressive site is a "must see" for parents.
Learn how you can provide the best learning environment for your child at the Family Education Network. Discover the latest education news, find homework assistance, or glance through category after category of articles and advice.
Kids are from Jupiter, but you probably knew that already. At the website, though, you can find helpful articles on making sense of child raising, such as "Remember, they're not like us!" or "Who's in charge here?"
An excellent source for parenting and childcare information is the ABC's of Parenting. Categories include Christian parenting, homeschooling, stay-at-home parenting, nutrition, and age-appropriate sections as well. You can even participate in their chat or discussion forums to ask other parents their ideas about different parenting concerns.
Be sure to visit Parent Soup and look over their extensive chat schedule. You'll find an unbelievable number of sessions offered in topics such as Blended Families, Positive Discipline, Raising Moral Children, and Parents with Teens. The site also features communities based on the age of your child, where you can post messages to bulletin boards or read relevant articles.
The Family Resource Center is a well-rounded website that offers ideas for family activities, advice on parenting, help with raising teens, and even tips for school projects. Not only that, you'll also find home improvement articles, advice on quality television viewing, and online IQ tests.
For a wonderful listing of parenting websites, visit Parenting Information, where you'll find both pediatric and miscellaneous parenting sites.
Finally, if you're looking for child care facilities, visit Kidcare.Net, a national child care guide that lists over 120,000 day care facilities.
