Looking for a Job?
By Robin Nobles (8/30/97)
No doubt about it--the Internet makes job searching much easier. Let's see what we can find.
At CareerSite, you'll develop a confidential profile that provides employers with an overview of you, the type of job you're looking for, and your qualifications. Then, you can search for jobs by company or category and respond to jobs online. Store a copy of your resume at the site to be released to potential employers at your request. A helpful feature is their Virtual Agent that searches for jobs for you and informs you when one matches your job profile.
Search Monster Board's database of over 50,000 jobs worldwide, or research today's most progressive employers. Their personal job search agent will continue your search and inform you of the results. Build and store your resume online, read articles on career advice, or utilize their relocation services.
A site designed to provide as much information and resources as possible for job seekers is Quintessential Career and Job-Hunting Resources Guide. For a limited time, you can even get your cover letters critiqued free by e-mail by the author of a book on writing dynamic cover letters. Take a marketability test to see how marketable you are, or go on a virtual interview.
At the Virtual Job Fair Library and Career Resources, you can search for a job by category, such as high technology, academics, law, medicine, general, and international. Job applicants can post their resumes online, and employers can search the database.
America's Job Bank is sponsored by the public Employment Service, a state operated program which provides labor exchange service to employers and job seekers through a network of 1800 offices throughout the United States. There is no charge for their services.
As well as offering job search facilities, resume postings, and information on employers, CareerMosaic also features online job fairs and online college career centers. The Career Resource Center will help prepare you for the job market by offering marketing trends and business forecasts, professional organizations you can join, and relocation resources.
CareerLab offers 200 Cover Letters for job hunters, from finding a part-time job to answering want ads like a pro.
The Black Collegian Online is a career site for students and professionals of color.
