Grab Your Fishing Poles and Head for the Lake!
By Robin Nobles (6/19/98)
What can be more relaxing than sitting in a boat in the middle of the lake, casually holding your fishing pole, while waiting for the Granddaddy of all catfish to bite? Let's see what resources we can find for fishing on the Net.
We'll begin at Field & Stream Online, where you can access their Fish Finder to get information on different species, including an index of federal lands where you can fish for them. Read about Soft Bait for '98, a preview of what you'll want to include in your tackle box this year. Find out the truth about fishing with kids, or post a message in their forums.
If you enjoy fly fishing, The Virtual Fly Shop is the place for you. Learn basic surface techniques, or read articles of interest, such as How to Fish Streamers. Click on a region to go to the regional fishing center, where you can read professional fishing reports and articles about fishing in that area.
Do you enjoy tournament fishing? At Fishing with Anglers Online, stop by the Clubhouse to learn of fishing tournaments or sportsman shows. Chat with other fishermen, or sell some of your old fishing equipment at the Trading Post.
Bass fishermen need to visit The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide for tips and tactics about bass fishing, including where to start fishing and how to select your lures. Read About Bass for detailed information on the species, or participate in their forums. Featured articles include Tournament Strategies and Selecting a Fishing Rod.
Are you interested in collecting antique fishing lures? At Antique Lures, you'll find identification information on pre-1940 lures and their boxes. Learn how to find old fishing lures, or access a field guide to grading old lures.
To learn about fishing conditions on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and adjacent waters, visit Cap'n Nook's Fish'n Book. Read fishing reports, look over the 4-day tide forecast, or glance at the Mississippi salt water records. The largest fish listed? An 885-pound shark.
The Fishing Network offers weather forecasting, over 20 fishing forums, and an extensive reference center with over 900 archived articles. Visit the Online Mall, or read the current issue of their fishing magazine.
For a wonderful listing of fishing links, visit The World-Wide Web Virtual Library: Sportfishing. You'll find links to sites such as the Fisherman's Guide Home Page, Learn How to Catch Carp, or How to Catch a Giant Bluefin Tuna.
