Writers' Conferences

By Robin Nobles

One of the best things a writer can do for him or herself is to attend a writers' conference. At these conferences, writers can fine-tune their skills, network with other professionals, or simply get refreshed and more in touch with themselves as writers.

The 17th Annual Craft of Writing Conference to be held at the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas, on October 29-30, 1999.

The Guide to Writers' Conferences by Shaw Guides boasts as being the leading source to conferences, workshops, seminars, and festivals. At their website, you'll find a continuously updated copy of The Guide that you can access free online. The Guide contains detailed descriptions of over 400 writers' organizations that feature conferences or workshops. The search facility allows you to search according to city, state, keyword, or name of conference.

At Inkspot's Classified Events section, you'll also find a listing of writers' conferences. The events are listing according to when they were actually posted, but each listing contains wonderful information about that conference.

Inkspot's Writers' Conferences lists conference information by month. Anyone who organizes a conference is encouraged to complete an online form for posting the conference.

Lost State Writers Conference to be held on September 24th-26th in Greeneville, Tennessee

Pacific Northwest Writers Association is sponsoring a Young Writers Camp on September 23-26, for 9th and 10th graders.

Romance Writers of America hosts one of the largest writers' conferences in the U.S. every July. At their website, you'll find information about their conference, as well as links to RWA chapters, many of which host their own conferences.

An excellent spot for screenwriters to learn about conferences is Screenwriters Online. The listing is organized by state, with Canada and international listings posted at the end.

At the Writers Write website, each conference listing contains enough information for you to determine whether that conference is right for you. You'll also find addresses, phone numbers, and email address for requesting additional information.

Yahoo! features a listing of annual writers' conferences, such as the Maui Writers Conference or the Indiana University Writers' Conference.

Now here's a wonderful website: Writing - Conferences & Workshops. It provides links to writers' conference information all over the Internet. You won't find detailed conference information at this site, but you'll be able to link to other sites that will provide that information.

An equally excellent site for information on conferences is Zuzu's Petals Literary Links: Regional Writers' Resources. Here, you'll find an alphabetical listing of conferences and workshops. Again, information about each conference isn't provided, but you can link to other sites with a simple click of your mouse.
