Are You a Collector?

By Robin Nobles (1/16/98)

Many people enjoy collecting things, such as old license plates, coins, comic books, or even seashells. On the Internet, you'll be able to buy or swap items for your collection, post messages on related forums, or read collection tips from experts.

Collecting pencils is a neat idea, and at General Pencil Information, you'll learn the basic types of pencils, or you can read an introduction to collecting.

Do you enjoy collecting miniatures? If so, visit Dollhouse Central, where you'll discover associations and museums, magazines and shops, or learn tips from the experts.

At the International Sewing Machine Collectors' Society, you'll find Graham Forsdyke's Condition Chart, which is now universally used to determine a machine's condition. At the Machine Gallery, you can search for your machines by manufacturer, such as Davis, Florence, or Wheeler & Wilson.

If you collect Hot Wheels, visit Hot Wheel Heaven, which was the first winner of the Hot Wheels Collectors Sites Award.

At the Worldwide Collecting Homepage, stamp collectors will gladly spend hours at auctions boasting $2 million worth of stamps at any one time. Or, if you have a stamp that you can't identify or authenticate, you can ask their experts for advice.

Diligent collectors can find rare treats at flea markets. So be sure to visit Mike Schelling's Flea Market Page where you'll discover a listing of flea markets practically all over the world.

At Collector Online, you'll find an antique mall complete with virtual booths that sell items such as Royal Doulton, Depression glass, and Rock & Roll collectibles. Rent a booth and sell online, or skim through their directory of collectors' clubs.
