Attention Deficit Disorder Resources

By Robin Nobles

ADD, or ADHD, affects 3 to 5 percent of all children, as many as 2 million American kids. On the average, at least one child in every classroom in the U.S. needs help with this disorder.

The following Internet sites are intended to provide information and educational material and are not designed to provide medical advice.

"Imagine living in a fast-moving kaleidoscope, where sounds, images, and thoughts are constantly shifting. Feeling easily bored, yet helpless to keep your mind on tasks you need to complete. Distracted by unimportant sights and sounds, your mind drives you from one thought or activity to the next." At the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Decade of the Brain website, you'll learn the symptoms of this disorder, how it is diagnosed and treated, and what educational options are available.

Another excellent site is the ADHD Owner's Manual. You'll find information on medications, tips for teachers, and behavioral and educational interventions.

Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (CH.A.D.D.) offers information on the legal rights and services for children with ADD, on treating a child with ADD, on ADD in the classroom, and on parenting an ADD child.

Mediconsult.com features a wonderful section on Attention Deficit Disorder where you'll find the latest information on ADD, updates on clinical trials, drug information, and even educational materials.

Besides offering numerous books for sale, the A.D.D. Warehouse provides a medication chart to treat ADD, an ADD accommodation plan for teaching, facts about the disorder, more.

At the Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder page, you can take a free test to see if you might have ADD. Or, you can read comprehensive articles about medications, diagnosis, treatment, and the latest research. Read online booklets in topics such as, "Questions from Adolescents about ADD."

The National Attention Deficit Disorder Association provides a multitude of resources on ADD/ADHD, including their Guiding Principles for the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD. You'll find areas for kids and teens, or help with family or educational issues.

For ADD/ADHD links galore, visit the ADD/ADHD Links Page. Categories include Children, Parenting, and School Issues; Clutter and Organizing; Law; and On-Line Forums.
